NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Following the squad's Spring Break trip to Puerto Rico, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will return home on Wednesday when CNU hosts Virginia Wesleyan in a non-conference bout at Captains Turf Field at 4 p.m.
After splitting their two games over the break, the Captains enter Wednesday's tilt with a 2-3 overall record. Virginia Wesleyan sits at 3-1 on the season.
Dating back to 2001, CNU and VWC have met 14 times with each team claiming seven victories. Last year, the Captains secured their fifth straight win in the series after posting a 13-7 triumph in Virginia Beach.

Last week in Puerto Rico, the Captains took down Roanoke, 14-11, before falling to No. 17 St. John Fisher, 13-9.
Kylie Chaplin led the team with 12 points during the two games, including a seven-goal outburst against the Maroons in the opener. The squad also continued to receive big contributions from its freshman as
Colleen Bourgal notched a hat-trick against Roanoke before
Catie Chess scored five times against St. John Fisher.
Along with the offensive stars,
Kirsten Mendelsohn forced five turnovers against RC, which ranks sixth on the program's all-time single-game list.
Hanna Slough also made 12 saves during the trip.
Overall this season, Christopher Newport ranks 14th in the nation with 87 points. On an individual level, Chaplin sits 10th in the NCAA with 11 assists and 23rd with 21 points. Slough also stands 13th in the country with 41 saves.
Virginia Wesleyan enters Wednesday riding a three-game winning streak, including a 19-0 victory over Hilbert on Monday. During that game, Taylor Simon and Megan Shallock both posted three goals, while Kelly Jacobson contributed a pair of assists. Carla Williams picked up six draw controls as well.
Through four games, Shallock leads the Marlins with 20 points and 19 goals. Williams and Brooke Cabeceiras also have 10 points apiece. On the defensive end, Madison Carroll has a .451 save percentage and a 9.33 goals-against-average, while Shallock has forced a team-high eight turnovers. The freshman also leads the way with 18 draw controls and 22 ground balls as well.
Following Wednesday's game, the Captains will return to action on Saturday for the start of CAC play when the squad hosts Wesley at 1 p.m.
