NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The 13th-ranked Christopher Newport field hockey team will host No. 18 Catholic in a crucial non-conference battle at 3 p.m. on Monday at Captains Turf Field.
CNU enters the contest with a 10-2 record, including a pristine 3-0 mark in home action. Meanwhile, Catholic sits at 10-3 on the season with a 5-2 record on the road. Monday's contest is a make-up of the game originally scheduled for September 30, which was postponed due to inclement weather.

A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS Christopher Newport has featured a well-balanced offense throughout the season as 10 different Captains have scored at least two goals.
Carol Thompson leads the way with eight tallies, while
Lauren Cheatham is second with six. Seven of the multi-goal scorers are underclassmen, including freshmen
Brittan Muir,
Rachael Allshouse, and
Cori Black. Muir, Cheatham, and
Lisa Murphy are also tied for the team-lead with four assists.
On the defensive end,
Bailey Lien ranks among the conference leaders with a 1.14 goals-against-average and a .739 save percentage. The team has also benefitted from a solid effort from its back line. Muir has three defensive saves this season, while
Kana Hashigami and
Lauren Reinaman have one each.
LAST TIME OUT On Saturday, Christopher Newport took down Denison, 3-2, in an overtime thriller in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Thompson came through with the clincher off a pass from Cheatham to seal the victory. Cheatham and Muir also added scores during regulation, while Lien earned the win for the Captains.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS Catholic enters Monday riding a five-game winning streak. During that stretch, the Cardinals have outscored their opposition, 27-1, including a 2-0 triumph over No. 4 Salisbury on October 7. Overall this season, Rachel Day has paced the squad with 14 goals and 33 points. Molly Crowley has also scored seven times, while Lane Adams has a team-high seven assists. On the defensive end, Analissa Scott boasts a 0.95 goals-against-average and an .848 save percentage. Kelly Cousoulis has contributed a pair of defensive saves as well.
SERIES HISTORY Catholic and Christopher Newport have met 12 times with the Captains holding a 7-5 edge in the series. The Cardinals won last year's battle with a 1-0 triumph in Washington D.C. The year before, CNU captured a pair of victories in Newport News after defeating CUA, 3-2, in the regular season before registering a 1-0 win in the NCAA Elite Eight.
