A LOOK AT THE CAPTAINS So far this season, Christopher Newport has displayed a well-balanced offensive attack, which has seen 15 different players score at least one goal. That already stands as the most goal scorers by a CNU team since the 2011 campaign. As potent as they are versatile, the squad has already produced 39 tallies in 10 games this season. That total is just two shy of matching last year's output, which was achieved in 19 contests.
On an individual level,
Carol Thompson has a team-high seven goals, while
Lauren Cheatham and
Alexa Weaver have three apiece. Additionally,
Brittan Muir has three goals to go along with a team-high four assists and three defensive saves.
Bailey Lien has been strong on the defensive end as well with a .784 save percentage and a 0.94 goals-against-average.
LAST TIME OUT On Saturday, Christopher Newport extended its winning streak with a 2-1 triumph over York at Captains Turf Field.
Cori Black and
Madison Doss both scored for CNU, while Lien contributed eight saves. The back line was outstanding as well with Muir chipping in with two defensive saves and
Kana Hashigami adding one.
SCOUTING THE JUMBOS Tufts comes into Monday's contest after dropping a 3-0 decision against No. 3 Middlebury on Saturday. That setback marked the squad's second loss of the year against a top-20 program after also falling to No. 13 Babson, 3-0, on September 15. However, the Jumbos also posted a 1-0 victory at No. 12 Amherst on October 5 to headline their early-season accomplishments.
So far this year, Tufts has been led by Dominique Zarrella, who boasts a team-high seven goals. Hannah Park has also scored five times this season, while Dakota Sikes-Keilp ranks among the national leaders with seven assists. On the defensive end, Emily Polinski and Libby DesRuisseaux have split time between the pipes and combined for five shutouts and a 1.40 goals-against-average.
SERIES HISTORY Monday's game will mark the second all-time meeting between Tufts and CNU. Last year, the Jumbos kicked off the rivalry with a 3-0 triumph in Newport News.
UP NEXT Following their game against the Jumbos, the Captains will return to action on October 17 with a neutral-site tilt against Denison in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Game time is slated for 11 a.m.
