Penn State Harrisburg opened up the season with seven straight losses, but has earned two wins in the last five games with both coming against league foes. The Lions won at Salisbury, 77-68, where CNU was defeated prior to the holiday break, and then beat Southern Virginia in their last game, 51-47. Three seniors factor into the action for the Lions, but the team is predominately led by under classmen, including sophomore big man Winton Lyle. Lyle is averaging a team-best 6.2 rebounds per game with 8.1 points per game, while junior Arick Sodini is leading the Harrisburg scoring with 12.2 points per game.
Prior to the men's tilt, the CNU women will look to add to their dominant home record under coach
Bill Broderick, suffering just two setbacks in the Freeman Center in his first 31 games at home. Senior Camry Green is coming off a record-breaking performance that included a career-high 19 rebounds and the bucket that moved her into the 1,000-point scoring club. She continues to rank in the top five in the CAC in scoring and second in rebounding, leading the Captains in both categories.
Defensively, CNU ranks 13th nationally in steals per game and will continue to pressure a turnover-prone Penn State Harrisburg squad. The Captains are led in steals by rookie Sam Porter, with 25, while the freshman is also second on the team in scoring with 10.1 points per game. Nine different CNU players have registered at least 10 steals, including 21 from sophomore point guard Lauren Cox.
The Lions enter Saturday's game much like their men's team, with two of their three wins on the season coming against CAC opponents. Penn State Harrisburg traveled to Frostburg State for a win and also captured a home win over York College earlier in the year. They are led by sophomore forward Kaitlyn Carmo, dropping in 13.4 points per game, while junior Kiara Carter has posted a team-high 11.5 rebounds per game.
Following Saturday's doubleheader, the Captains will return to action on Wednesday, January 14 with another home set against St. Mary's College of Maryland.
