NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Christopher Newport University President Paul Trible and Director of Athletics Todd Brooks today announced that Christopher Newport's football and outdoor track facility will continue to be known as POMOCO Stadium through June 30, 2019.
The University announces this action in response to a relationship between the two organizations that spans more than forty-years and over $1.3 million in support, including the most recent commitment of $250,000 by POMOCO Auto Group that provides leadership support for the Department of Athletics.
"I could not be more thankful, or more thrilled," says Brooks. "POMOCO's support will continue to provide our student-athletes with the opportunity to bring championships to CNU."
Beginning with the 2002 season, all of CNU's home football games, outdoor track and field meets, in addition to dozens of additional campus and community events have taken place in POMOCO Stadium.
"The CNU community is excited that our partnership with POMOCO will continue for many more years," Trible says. "POMOCO's strong and generous support empowers the success of our student-athletes on the playing fields and in our classrooms."
POMOCO Auto Group has been a leader in the Virginia Peninsula business community since 1948. The company has grown to include multiple dealerships, including Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram in Hampton, Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram Fiat in Newport News, Mitsubishi in Hampton, Nissan in Hampton and various used car locations.
"POMOCO Auto Group is extremely proud of our relationship with Christopher Newport University," says Rick Gallaer, President of POMOCO Auto Group. "It has been gratifying to have been a part of the transformation of CNU athletics and the University."
The Christopher Newport football team will open the 2014 season at POMOCO Stadium on Saturday, September 6. The Captains will host Salisbury in a 6 p.m. kickoff.
