CNU Men's Soccer Travels to Penn State Harrisburg Saturday

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- The 11th-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport University will take on Penn State Harrisburg on the road this Saturday with kickoff slated at 2:00 pm for a pivotal conference matchup heading into the 2014 postseason. CNU, ranked second in the NCAA's Regional Rankings released on Wednesday, has a 12-2-4 overall record with a 3-1-3 mark in league play, while the Lions are 11-4-0 overall with a 4-3-0 record against conference opponents.

Both teams are battling for a postseason berth, tied for third in the conference with 12 points. CNU is coming off a 1-1 draw on Thursday against the nationally-ranked Salisbury Sea Gulls while Penn State Harrisburg earned a 1-0 victory over Frostburg State in their last game.

The Captains have been working through a tough portion of their league schedule, enduring three straight game postponements. As a team, CNU has one of the most potent offenses in the nation, averaging 2.83 goals per game with 51 total goals scored so far this season. Senior Jalon Brown (34 pts) and sophomore Patrick Burns (31 pts) are the top two scorers in the league, and both are among the nation's finest in total points. Burns' 11 assists lead the league and rank sixth nationally.

Sophomore Preston Key scored the Captains' lone goal on Thursday and became the tenth CNU player this season with multiple goals.

Penn State Harrisburg has scored just 24 goals this season, but defensively has been every game by allowing just 12 tallies in 15 games played. Sophomore Brandon Hoover has started 13 games with a 0.89 goals against average and ranks third in the league in both GAA and save percentage (.826). Junior Aaron Kline leads the offense with seven goals scored and 14 points, joined in double-figure scoring by sophomore Alex Panuccio with four goals and two assists for ten points.

The Saturday afternoon matchup is the final road game of the regular season for the Captains, as the squad will return home for Senior Night on Wednesday, October 29 against Marymount.
