MIDDLETOWN, Pa.- The Christopher Newport University men's basketball team fell in overtime Saturday to Penn State Harrisburg, 63-60, at Capitol Union Building. The Captains, now 10-3 overall and 3-2 in the Capital Athletic Conference, squandered an 11-point second half lead for their second straight loss.

CNU trailed at the half, 22-21, following a turnover-filled twenty minutes. The Captains committed 14 turnovers in the opening half, and finished the game with a season-high 23.

Penn State Harrisburg, now 6-7 overall and 3-2 in the CAC, scored the first six points of the second half to take a 28-21 lead. Christopher Newport then battled back, and scored the next 18 points to take a 39-28 lead.

The Lions chipped away at the lead and sent the game to the wire. Senior guard Will Doyle sank a three-pointer from the left wing in the final seconds to tie the game, 55-55, and force overtime. Doyle, who averages 18 points per game, had made just two of nine threes before the game-tying shot. Doyle finished with 14 points.

The Lions then jumped out to a 59-55 lead in the extra period, and put the game away with free throws in the final minute. CNU still had an opportunity to tie in the final seconds of overtime, but a three-point attempt was blocked to end the game.

The Captains were led by sophomore
Connor Laframboise, who scored 18 points and connected on four threes, including one in overtime.

Tra Benefield posted 14 points, including 10 in the second half which included two three-point plays. Junior point guard
Mike Cherry, who missed four key free throws in the second half, added 10 points.

Senior Kenny Stone led Penn State Harrisburg with 16 points, including 10 in the second half and a free throw in overtime.

Luc Atangana posted a team-high 11 rebounds, as the Captains out-rebounded the Lions, 37-33.

Christopher Newport's defense held the Lions to just 39 percent shooting for the game, and also forced 19 Penn State Harrisburg turnovers.
