Captains Host Lynchburg in Men's Soccer Action Wednesday Night

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- After spending over two weeks on the road, the Christopher Newport men's team returns home for a game against the Lynchburg College Hornets (3-2-1) on Wednesday night. CNU hosts the ODAC foe at 7:00 pm on Captains Field, in just their third home game of the season.

The Captains have improved to 4-2-1 with three straight wins, including one over 17th-ranked Roanoke College. The game against the Hornets kicks off a string of three straight at home, as CNU will host Wesley on Saturday for their first ever Capital Athletic Conference match, followed by the non-conference finale against Greensboro.

Led by head coach Steve Shaw, CNU features a young team led by junior All-American Jalon Brown. The Yorktown native leads the league in goals scored and total points, with six and 14, respectively. Ryan Balfour, Sean Christein and Tommy O'Neal have each added a pair of goals to back up the junior leader.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Sean Killion has three shutouts, and boasts a 0.49 goals against average. Christein and O'Neal have helped lock down the back line, holding opponents to just over five shots on-goal per game.

CNU will take on a Lynchburg team that is unbeaten in its last four games, going 3-0-1, including a pair of overtime games. Through six games, the Hornets have scored just eight goals, but the defense has given up only four. In goal, Jonathan Sheffield has three shutouts, posting an .895 save percentage, playing every minute so far for the Hornets. Offensively, Lynchburg is led by Chaz Ashton and Luke Moore, with two goals and an assist each.

The game will be presented in a live video webcast at CNUsports.com, with live stats also available. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm.
