Softball Warming Up for NCAA Action vs. Salisbury

SALEM, Va.- The Christopher Newport softball team hopes Thursday's success continues today, as the Captains take on the top-seeded Sea Gulls of Salisbury University. It's the second day of the Salem Regional, and the CNU-Salisbury matchup is the third game of four on the schedule at the Moyer Complex.

First pitch was set for 2 p.m., but it now appears the start time will be later due to the length of the first two games. Host school Roanoke ousted Penn State-Altoona in the day's first game, and Neumann and Lynchburg are playing now in another elimination game in the second matchup.

The Captains, riding a 10-game winning streak, are coming off an impressive 8-0 win over Roanoke on Thursday. Salisbury, the top seed and the number one team in the nation, defeated Penn State-Altoona on Thursday. CNU will be looking for revenge, as the Gulls took two games from the Captains earlier this year in Newport News.

Christopher Newport is now 33-11 on the year, and Head Coach Keith Parr will likely start senior Krista Townsend against Salisbury. Townsend has had great success in NCAA play the last three years.

First pitch will now likely be sometime after 2:45. It's another warm day in Salem, with overcast skies and temperatures near 80 degrees.
