TOWSON, Md. – Just three days after suffering the squad's third straight setback at Virginia Wesleyan, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to get back on track when the Captains take on Goucher in a 1 p.m. showdown on Saturday at Beldon Field.
Entering the match-up, CNU holds a 5-7 record, while Goucher sits at 4-7. The Gophers have won three of their last four outings, while Christopher Newport has struggled to find its footing after opening the year with a 4-2 mark.
Ready to snap their streak, the Captains will also be looking for their first win against Goucher. The Gophers are 2-0 in the all-time series, including a 15-3 victory last season in Maryland. The squad also pulled out a 10-2 win in Newport News during the 2011 campaign.

Making his presence felt throughout the season,
John Thompson has been CNU's top offensive threat in 2013. So far this year, he leads the team with 41 points and 26 assists. In a well-rounded showing, the sophomore star also sits second on the squad with 15 goals.
Yielding fewer than eight goals per game to his opponents,
Andy McGregor has also been outstanding between the pipes. The senior goalie has started all 12 games and boasts a .570 save percentage. Overall, he has stoned 114 shots during the year and limited the opposition to just 86 goals.
In front of McGregor,
Brenden Dwyer,
Teddy Pekalski, and
Zakary Burkhard have been stalwart defenders. All three Captains have at least 10 caused turnovers and double-digit ground balls. Pekalski leads the way in both categories, forcing 15 turnovers and securing 32 ground balls.
Sturdy on the offensive end as well,
Alex Barber and
Aaron Chrzaszcz have helped Thompson light up the scoreboard. Barber leads the team with 17 goals, while Chrzaszcz ranks third on the team with 19 points.
Billy Crist,
Parker Thompson, and
Kyle Pasta all have double-digit point totals as well.
Key to the Goucher attack, Sam Morgan leads the squad with 23 points and 14 assists. Pierce Ingram has also scored a team-high 17 goals during the year, while Max Roach has chipped in with 14. Overall, four Gophers have scored at least 10 times this season with Zachary Fratella and Steve Patterson rounding out the top offensive threats.
In goal for Goucher, Connor Mishaw has pieced together a .539 save percentage and a 10.79 goals-against-average. In just over 617 minutes of work, the GC goalie has made 130 saves and allowed 111 scores.
Not to be overlooked, Bryce Carson has also been a brute on the defensive end, causing 25 turnovers while collecting 36 ground balls. Tristan Morris has been the team's top faceoff specialist, winning 96 of his 203 attempts. He also leads the team with 52 ground balls.
Going forward, Christopher Newport will continue its trek next Saturday when the squad squares off with Saint Vincent in Latrobe, Pennsylvania at noon.
