The Christopher Newport softball squad, ranked 21st in the nation, hosts the Eagles of Mary Washington this afternoon. First pitch for Game 1 of the non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Captains Field.
CNU is 21-10 overall and 13-2 in the USA South. The Captains have won four straight games, following USA South sweeps over the weekend at Averett and Mary Baldwin.
Today's action begins a five-day stretch that will see the Captains play four home doubleheaders. CNU will host Ferrum Thursday at 3 p.m. and then welcome Greensboro on Saturday at 2 p.m. and Methodist on Sunday for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
The Eagles are 9-14 so far this season, and are 0-9 in road contests. Mary Washington ended a seven-game losing streak on Saturday by taking the second game of a home doubleheader against Frostburg State.
