CNU Men’s Lacrosse Faces Ferrum in Regular Season Finale on Saturday

FERRUM, Va. – The Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to continue its surge on Saturday when the squad caps off the regular season with a trip to Ferrum for a 1 p.m. bout against the Panthers at W.B. Adams Stadium.

Having won their previous two contests, the Captains enter their final regular season game with a 7-8 record. Ferrum has dropped its last three outings and currently sits at 8-8 on the season.

Especially successful in their previous match-ups with the Panthers, the Captains boast a 2-0 record all-time against Ferrum. Last season, CNU walked away with a 19-3 victory after opening the series with an 11-4 triumph during the 2011 campaign.

In the midst of a resurgence lately, Christopher Newport took down Greensboro, 14-13, on Tuesday after trumping Saint Vincent, 12-7, over the weekend. The back-to-back victories marked the first time the squad won consecutive contests in over a month. Now, the Captains are looking for their first three-game winning streak of the year.

Notching one of the finest seasons in team history, John Thompson already holds program records for assists (33) and points (52) this year. Alex Barber has helped balance out the offensive attack, ripping home 21 goals. Aaron Chrzaszcz has also scored 19 times, while Parker Thompson and Will Geise have found the back of the net at least 10 times each.

Andy McGregor has been a stalwart on the defensive end, posting a .574 save percentage and an 8.14 goals-against-average. Teddy Pekalski and Brenden Dwyer are both tied for the team-lead with 20 caused turnovers, while Ari Elgort has won 91 of his 181 faceoffs this season.

Leading Ferrum's offensive attack, Tyler Poage boasts a team-best 26 goals and 35 points. Will Walter has also scored 22 times, while Andrew Senft has dished out 14 assists. Overall, the Panthers have seven double-digit goal scorers this season, including four who also have at least 10 assists.

Emerging as the team's top goalie, Damian Pulos has started 11 of the squad's last 12 games. During his time between the pipes, he has a .552 save percentage and a 10.58 goals-against-average. Tyler Muckle also leads the team with 20 caused turnovers, while Hunter Robb and Anthony Garcia both have forced at least 15 this season.
