CNU Men’s Lacrosse Heads to St. Vincent on Saturday at Noon

LATROBE, Pa. -- Putting their recent struggles behind them, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team will look to get back on track on Saturday when CNU squares off with St. Vincent in a Noon battle at Chuck Noll Field.

After dropping their last four decisions, the Captains sit at 5-8 on the season. The Bearcats have also hit a rough patch lately, losing their previous six games on the way to a 2-6 overall mark. The two programs have split their two previous meetings with CNU pulling out last year's match-up, 9-6.

Piecing together an historic sophomore year, John Thompson has already set the single-season assists record with 27 and leads the team with 42 points. Alex Barber also has 17 goals, while Aaron Chrzaszcz has notched 14 to help round out a well-balanced attack.

Really stout on the defensive side of the ball, CNU has limited the opposition to just 7.97 goals-per-game. Andy McGregor has been outstanding between the pipes, notching a .586 save percentage. Teddy Pekalski also leads the squad with 18 caused turnovers, while Brenden Dwyer, Zakary Burkhard, and Michael Mabry have all forced at least 10 apiece as well.

Offensively, St. Vincent has been led by Nick Pensyl, who boasts 14 goals and 20 points. Anthony Altieri and Zach Clark also have double-digit goal totals, while Bryce Pasquariello ranks fourth on the team with 13 points. Peter Hronis has been the squad's top faceoff man, winning 38 of his 73 battles.

Unrelenting on the defensive side of the ball, Jeremy McGuire leads the team with 21 caused turnovers, and Joey Lunz has accounted for 16. Adam Gunter has been St. Vincent's top goalie, starting all eight games while compiling a .521 save percentage and an 11.12 goals-against-average.

Down to the final week of the season, Christopher Newport will head to Greensboro on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before wrapping up the regular season at Ferrum next Saturday at 1 p.m.
