NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- Wednesday afternoon at Captains Park, two Top 20 softball programs square off for a non-conference doubleheader. The 10th-ranked Sea Gulls of Salisbury take on the 24th-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport. Game 1 is scheduled for a 2 p.m. first pitch.
Both squads have won their last five games. The Captains are coming off a doubleheader sweep over Maryville last Saturday at Captains Park. The wins improved CNU's record to 17-8 overall and 9-2 in the USA South Athletic Conference.
The Sea Gulls are 16-2 overall and have not played since beating Ithaca and Cortland State in the Salisbury Invitational on March 16th. Salisbury pitchers this year are giving up just 1.07 runs per game, and have thrown seven shutouts.
The Captains are led by this week's USA South Player of the Week,
Sabrina Hill, who is hitting .439 with four home runs and 28 runs batted in.
CNU leads the all-time series with Salisbury, 28-24, with two ties. The Captains took both games played last year in Salisbury, Maryland.
