The Christopher Newport softball squad returns home this weekend for USA South Athletic Conference action. CNU takes on Maryville on Saturday for a twin bill beginning at 2 p.m. at Captains Park.
CNU is 15-8 overall and 7-2 in the USA South. Keith Parr's squad is ranked 24th in the nation this week, and is coming off a doubleheader sweep at North Carolina Wesleyan on Wednesday.
The Scots of Maryville are 1-25 overall and 1-11 in the USA South following a doubleheader split at North Carolina Wesleyan on Friday. The win in the opener marked the first win of the season for the Scots, snapping a 24-game losing streak.
The Captains, who were picked to win the USA South in the league's pre-season poll, were 37-11 last year and advanced to the NCAA Regional Championship. The Captains also went 15-3 in conference action last season on the way to their fourth straight USA South regular season title.
