Women's Lacrosse Hosts No. 15 Washington & Lee on Saturday at 1 p.m.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Ready to get back on track, the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team will welcome No. 15 Washington & Lee to town on Saturday for a 1 p.m. battle at Captains Turf Field.

After a hard-fought 15-13 setback to No. 13 Mary Washington last Saturday, the Captains (0-1) will take on their second straight ranked opponent to open the 2013 campaign. Washington & Lee, who advanced to last year's NCAA Tournament, will be making its season debut after the Generals forfeited their first game of the year against St. Mary's.

Individuals who are unable to make it out to the game on Saturday can still follow along with the action by accessing live stats, which will be streamed through CNUsports.com.

Netting seven goals in the season opener, Ashton Marshall picked up where she left off last season when she was honored as the USA South Player of the Year. The junior standout scored four points in each half against the Eagles after collecting three goals and an assist in the first stanza before adding four more scores after halftime.

Coming through on the offensive end as well, Lauren King and Jessica Singer also added two goals each against Mary Washington. In addition to the multi-goal scorers, Elena Obregon added the first of her career, while Becca Geist rounded out the scoring with a goal of her own.

Headlining the team's defensive efforts, Emily Johnson scooped up six ground balls and caused five turnovers in the first game of the year, while Stephanie Green also forced a pair against the Eagles. King and Geist tied for the team-lead in draw controls after the two secured five apiece.

Experienced on the attack, Washington & Lee welcomes back three of its five leading scorers from a year ago. Margaret Klein leads the way after scoring 35 goals while adding 10 assists for the Generals in 2012. Meade Brewster also tallied 31 goals last year, while Katie Hagan had 22 for W&L.

Carolina Kingsbery and Olive Waxter are also back after anchoring a successful defensive unit during the 2012 campaign. Together, the two defenders helped Washington & Lee rank among the top-25 nationally in goals-against-average.

Keeping their show on the road over the next two weeks, the Captains will head out on a 10-day, four-state trek beginning with a 4 p.m. showdown at St. Mary's on Wednesday. Later, Christopher Newport will also travel to Lynchburg and Agnes Scott before wrapping up the team's excursion with a neutral site game against Adrian in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
