NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Led by the red-hot feet of senior forward
Bupe Okeowo, the Christopher Newport women's soccer team has run off seven straight victories and will look for number eight on Saturday night, traveling to Wesley College (4-11-1, 0-6-0) for a 6:00 pm kickoff. Okeowo has at least one point in each of the last five games, and has piled up 17 points in the last seven as CNU has improved to 12-2-1 overall with a perfect 6-0-0 mark in league play.
The Captains have just two games left in the regular season, both away from home. Live stats will be available for the Saturday night contest, with links available at CNUsports.com.Â
Okeowo has joined senior
Emma O'Reilly as the team leader in points, with 24 points on ten goals and four assists each. After scoring a hat trick in the last game against Mary Washington, she added to her career-best season and has provided CNU with a dynamic duo up top this season. With the tandem leading the way, CNU has outscored opponents 35-9 this season, including a 22-2 advantage in their current seven-game roll.Â
Defensively, rookie
Haley Casanova continues to impress in her first year, posting eight solo shutouts while starting all 15 games this season. Her goals against average is down to 0.61 after another clean sheet on Wednesday, while she also has piled up 70 saves for a 88.6% save percentage. Her 70 stops already rank sixth on the all-time single season record list at CNU, while she has also positioned herself to make a run at the single season record for goals against average.
On Saturday, the Captains will take on a Wesley College program that has dropped six straight games, but features an offense that has scored 35 goals this year. Junior midfielder Chelsi Biener has a team-high 18 points on seven goals and four assists, while sophomore Morgan Warrington is also in double figures with 10 points. Twelve different Wolverines have scored goals this season, and 14 have at least one point on the season.Â
