NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Four Christopher Newport men's soccer players will take the home pitch for the last time in the regular season on Saturday, as they host Penn State Harrisburg (3-11-1, 0-6-0) at 7:00 pm. On Senior Night, the Captains (10-5-1, 4-2-0) will look to bounce back with a win that would clinch a home game in the opening round of next week's Capital Athletic Conference Tournament.
The senior class includes one player from each position on the field, as forward
Jack Cooper, midfielder
Caleb Lewis, defender
Stephen Landry and goalkeeper
Sean Killion will look to go out on a positive note. CNU will close out the regular season on Wednesday, October 30 at St. Mary's (Md.).Â
Lewis and Cooper have helped lead a dominant offense this season that is averaging 2.50 goals per game. Lewis shares the team lead in assists, with eight, giving him 20 for his career. Cooper has a pair of game-winning goals this season and ranks fourth on the team in scoring with nine points.Â
Defensively, Landry has made his way into the starting lineup and has helped the Captains back line hold opponents to just 1.06 goals per game. CNU is allowing less than five shots on-goal per game and just over 11 total per game. Killion is the Captains' starting keeper, with five shutouts on the year and a save percentage of 78%.Â
Penn State Harrisburg has dropped seven straight games but in their last game, held 8th-ranked York (Pa.) to just one goal in a 1-0 setback. The Lions started the year with three wins in their first three games, but have not won since the calendar turned to October. Junior Tommy Miller leads the scoring with eight points on three goals and two assists, while Justin Henderson and Jon Willingham have each added seven points.Â
