NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The 17th-ranked Captains return to the hardwood on Saturday when they play host to Maryville College (7-8, 3-4) in USA South action at 4:00 pm. CNU (12-2, 5-1) is in the middle of a six-game homestand and are undefeated at home this season, winners of 18 straight in the Freeman Center.

The game will be broadcast live on Xtra 99.1 FM, the CNU/Pepsi Radio Network, with audio and video available on Captains Sports Live at CNUsports.com/LIVE. Live stats will also be available at the CNUsports.com.

The Captains are winners in seven of their last eight games and are coming off a bounceback victory over LaGrange last Saturday. CNU has been led by terrific defense so far this season, ranking sixth in the nation in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to 37% shooting.

On the other side of the court, the CNU offense has been led by a dominant trifecta this year, highlighted by the play of junior leader Tra Benefield. Benefield was named Team Captain this week, the first for CNU in head coach John Krikorian's tenure at CNU. The Folkston, Ga. native is the team leader in scoring (20.8 ppg) and rebounding (8.5 rpg) and ranks 27th in the nation in points per game. The other two offensive leaders are sophomores Mike Cherry (16.5 ppg) and Nik Biberaj (15.1 ppg).

Maryville has won three of its last five games under head coach Randy Lambert. The Fighting Scots' coach is in his 33rd season, coaching nearly 900 games and ranking in the top ten among active coaches in career wins. This season, the Scots are led by the head coaches' son, senior guard Wes Lambert, scoring 10.4 points per game. Lambert is taking nearly seven three-pointers per game, hitting almost two per contest. Sophomores Christian Ford and Oscar Butler are just shy of double figures, scoring 9.7 and 9.6 points per game, respectively.
