CNU Men's Soccer Looks to Bounce Back in Marlins Classic

Captains take on Shenandoah Friday, Virginia Wesleyan Saturday

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- The Christopher Newport University men's soccer team is back in action this weekend at the 2012 Marlins Classic, as they take on former USA South conference foe Shenandoah University Friday evening at 5 pm and the host Virginia Wesleyan Marlins Saturday at 7:30 pm.

The Captains are coming off a tough loss against now-second ranked York College (Pa.) and will look to pick up season win number one this weekend. CNU has opened the year 0-1-1  with a 2-2 draw against defending national champion Ohio Wesleyan and the setback to York. Three different Captains have scored early this season and three others have tallied assist putting six players into the scoring column through two games.

CNU will take on the Hornets Friday night after a 2-12-2 season in 2011 and a 1-2 start to the 2012 campaign. Shenandoah picked up a 1-0 win over Goucher and has seen solid play out of junior goalkeeper James Dutcher. Despite allowing seven goals through three games, Dutcher has stopped 22 shots for a save percentage over 75%.

Saturday night will be another early challenge for the Captains as they play host Virginia Wesleyan in a big regional matchup. The Marlins opened with a defeat against York College (Pa.) but responded with a stunning 3-0 result over Ohio Wesleyan. They will take on Marymount on Friday night before facing the rival Captains Saturday evening.
