NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- CNU men's tennis played a pair of matches on Saturday, sweeping the doubleheader with an 8-1 win at Virginia Wesleyan, followed by a 7-2 victory in the USA South finale versus Methodist University.

In both matches, CNU swept through the doubles matches, 3-0, taking a commanding lead against both the Marlins and Monarchs. Gian Heyer and Joey Manilla bumped up to play No. 1 doubles against VWC, winning 8-6, and they also picked up an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles later in the day.

The two Captains also moved up in singles play against the Marlins, as Heyer won, 6-3, 6-3, over Brian Luke at No. 1 singles and Manilla picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Steven Bond at No. 2.

Eric Shulman and Matt King returned to the courts in the second match, winning 8-1 at No. 1 doubles together, and then both picking up singles wins later. Shulman went 6-1, 6-1 against Duncan Miller at 1, and King won 6-4, 7-5 over Greg Patterson at 3.

The Captains wrapped up the regular season with a 10-9 overall record, 4-2 in the USA South. They will now play in next week's USA South Conference Tournament in Burlington, N.C.
