BURLINGTON, N.C. - Top-seeded Christopher Newport advanced to the USA South Tournament semifinals with a 13-2 win over 5th-seeded Greensboro on Saturday afternoon at Burlington's Springwood Park. The Captains got a complete-game performance from Krista Townsend, while Jen Falin paced the Captain offense with her second homerun of the tourney.

CNU got all the offense would need in the top of the first as the first five Captain batters reached and scored. Falin did most of the damage with a three-run homer to left. Greensboro reliever Hannah Pennell proceeded to hold the Captains in check until the sixth and seventh, when CNU tacked on four more runs in each inning.

Townsend (9-1) did the rest on the mound, allowing just two runs on four hits and striking out eight. Both runs came on a two-run homer by the Pride's Brittany Teer in the sixth.

GC's Kelsey Sanfilippo (10-6) suffered the loss.

CNU (31-7) will now face 7th-seeded Averett at 4:00pm, and as the only two undefeated teams remaining, the winner punches its ticket to Sunday's championship. The Pride (20-18) will next take on 6th-seeded Shenandoah in a 2:00pm elimination game.
