Box Score 2 SALISBURY, Md. -- Led by junior catcher
Chelsea Mitchell, the #15 Christopher Newport softball team improved to 7-3 overall today, sweeping a doubleheader at the 2012 Sea Gull Classic. The Captains beat Arcadia University, 8-4, and then cruised past Frostburg State in five innings, winning 11-0. Mitchell finished with four hits and a pair of home runs to lead the way.
Against the Knights of Arcadia, junior
Whitney Haller picked up the win in relief for her second of hte season. Mitchell was 2-3 in the win, hitting the first of two homers on the day. Sophomore outfielder
Kelley Foate added a 2-4 performance with a couple of runs.
In the second game, CNU ran away with a win over the Bobcats, behind junior
Elizabeth Holte in the circle. Holte pitched a complete game shutout and the Captains offense exploded for 11 runs. Mitchell was 2-4 with a three-run home run and Foate was 2-3 with two runs.
Kristina McLaughlin and rookie
Kristen Olsen also had home runs in the game, as McLaughlin went 3-4 and Olsen was a perfect 4-4 with a double and three runs scored.
The Captains return to the 2012 Sea Gull Classic at Salisbury University tomorrow, taking on Baruch College at 10:00 am and Susquehanna University at 2:00 pm.
