NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport University women's lacrosse team is hosting Lynchburg College on Captains Field today at 5:00pm. The Captains are on a six-game winning streak and will look to improve to 7-1 with a win today.

After a big 10-goal game on Saturday, Ashton Marshall is leading the Captains with 19 goals for the year. Marshall was named USA South Player of the Week for her efforts in the Captains' 26-11 defeat of Ferrum College.

Also leading the Captains are Lauren King with 18 goals and Jessica Singer and Maddy Connor with 14. King leads the team with 29 draw controls and has nine caused turnovers and 13 ground balls. Midfielder Becca Giest has a team-high eight assists and leads with 11 caused turnovers.

Hannah Wilkerson has started all seven games for the Captains and has a .416 save percentage and an 8.30 goals against average. Hornets goalkeeper, Christina Tran, has a 12.85 goals against average and a .419 save percentage.

The Hornets are led by Lesley Buckingham and Kendall Adkin who have scored 24 and 20 goals this season. Buckingham also leads with four assists and 10 caused turnovers. Adkin has a team-high 12 ground balls.

The Captains and Hornets have played 11 times in program history with Lynchburg leading the series 6-5. The Captains traveled to Lynchburg in 2011 and beat the Hornets 14-11 on their home field.
