NEWPORT NEWS, VA- The Touchdown Club of Richmond has selected Christopher Newport Head Coach Matt Kelchner as its Division II/III Coach of the Year. Coach Kelchner will be honored at the All Metro Football Banquet being held in Richmond next Thursday, January 26, 2012.

"It's a great honor and I'm very proud of our team and what we accomplished this season," Kelchner said. "I certainly share the credit with my tremendous staff, players, and everyone who supports CNU football."

The Captains posted a record of 8-3 this season and won the USA South Championship by going 7-0 in conference play. CNU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the 8th time in 11 years of football history.

This event honors the All Metro Football Team as selected by the Richmond Times-Dispatch as well as the High School Coaches of the Year in the Richmond Metro Area. Mike London, UVA Head Coach, will be honored as the Division I Coach of the Year. It is anticipated that over 500 people will attend this event.

The banquet will be held at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump located at 12042 West Broad Street, Richmond, and will begin at 7pm.
