#2 Captains Face Tough Test on the Road at #18 Salisbury

CNU has not won at Salisbury since 1999

SALISBURY, Md. -- Head coach Steve Shaw and the second-ranked Christopher Newport University men's soccer team (5-0-1) face a tough task on Wednesday, as they travel to 18th-ranked Salisbury University for a 4:00 pm kickoff. Salisbury is 4-1-1 this season and ranks fourth in the South Atlantic Region.

The Captains have not won at Salisbury since 1999 and will be looking to break a streak of five straight losses on the road vs. the Sea Gulls. Last season, the Captains defeated Salisbury in a late come-from-behind victory at home, 3-2. In 2009, Salisbury was one of just two teams to beat CNU, taking a 2-1 victory in Maryland.

Today's game will be presented in a live video webcast - fans can register for a free account and watch here. Live stats will also be available here.

CNU has raced out to a 5-0-1 start, led by senior Brian Lybert with 11 points. The senior from Honolulu, Hawaii has scored three goals and added five assists for the Captains. Fellow senior Winston Mattheisen has added four goals and an assist for nine points this season. In goal, Justin Wolfe was named USA South Defensive Player of the Week and has played every minute between the posts this season. He has two shutouts and a 0.95 goals against average.

Salisbury suffered its first and only loss last weekend, dropping a 2-1 decision to Mary Washington, who the Captains will play in late October. The team boasts one of the top defenses in the nation, allowing just four goals all season for a team goals against average of 0.64 with three shutouts. John Vnenchak has started all six games and has played all but 25 minutes this season. Offensively, the Sea Gulls are led by Matt Greene and Ian Wilson with six points each.
