POMOCO Stadium Lights Installed on Thursday

Captains prepare for first season with night games

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- With construction abound on the campus of Christopher Newport University, the unveiling of the newly expanded Freeman Center and the beginning foundation of a new residence hall and academic building, it still isn't easy to miss one of the most exciting additions: the lights at POMOCO Stadium.

After the installation was complete on Thursday, four energy-efficient light standards towered above the football stadium and will now provide CNU Football the opportunity to play in night games for the first time in school history. The first of which will be the September 17 contest against Salisbury University as part of the University's 50th Anniversary Celebration. Kick-off will be 7:00 pm. CNU will also play night games against Shenandoah (October 8) and North Carolina Wesleyan (October 22).

The CNU football team will begin the season next Saturday, September 3 as they take on Waynesburg University at 1 pm. In 2011, the Captains will be looking for their eighth conference championship and trip to the NCAA Tournament in just their 11th season of action.
