SALISBURY, MD- The Christopher Newport softball squad, fresh off a 13-inning marathon win over top-seeded Emory University on Friday, will try to make it three straight wins in NCAA Tournament play Saturday afternoon. The Captains will play the host school, Salisbury University, at 3 p.m.
CNU is now 33-10 after the amazing win Friday. Junior
Jen Falin ended the battle with a walk-off grand slam home run to give CNU a 7-3 victory. Falin also forced extra innings with a 7th inning sacrifice fly that tied the game at 3-3.
Sophomore
Krista Townsend pitched the entire game for the Captains, allowing just three runs in 13 innings of pitching. Townsend had just one bad inning, allowing all three runs in the fourth.
The Sea Gulls are also 2-0 in NCAA play so far, and beat USA South member Shenandoah 4-0 in a game that carried over from Friday to Saturday morning due to darkness.
