NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University women's lacrosse team will play fifteenth ranked Washington and Lee University in the Captains' sixth consecutive NCAA appearance at 4:00pm tomorrow. Both teams went undefeated in their conference this season and won their conference tournament championships earning a bid to the tournament.
The Captains defeated Greensboro College 18-7 in the USA South conference tournament championship on April 16. Senior
Kaitlin Quigley earned the tournament most valuable player honor after scoring seven goals and recording two assists in two games.

Meghan Harkey are leading CNU offensively combining for 190 points. Quigley has scored 58 goals and has 34 assists and Harkey leads the team with 54 assists and has added 44 goals. Also contributing goals for the Captains is freshman
Ashton Marshall with 49 and sophomore
Lauren King with 41.
Defensively the Captains are being led by senior
Morgan Layton and sophomore
Monica Evans who both have 20 caused turnovers. Layton has 29 ground balls and Evans has picked up 33. Freshman goalkeeper
Hannah Wilkerson has played every minute for the Captains this season and has a 9.00 goals against average with 158 saves.
The Generals are coming off a 21-13 win over Roanoke College as they won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament Championship. They are 14-4 on the season and are currently on a 10-game winning streak. Their losses came to Franklin & Marshall, Salisbury, Cortland State and Catholic.
They are being led offensively by Emmy Matthews with 54 goals and 15 assists for 69 points. Wilton Megargel added 50 goals and 14 assists for the Generals. Kathy Brown has a team-high 31 ground balls while Alex Van Horn leads with 99 draw controls. Leanne Stone is leading the team with 23 caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Katharine Farrar has a 9.41 goals against average and has made 125 saves this season.
The Captains and Generals have faced each other four times in program history with Washington and Lee coming out on top each time. The two teams met last season in the Captains' final regular season game where they fell 16-7 in Lexington.
The winner of the game on Wednesday will travel to Salisbury, Md. on Saturday to play the winner of the Salisbury versus Rowan game. The second round game will be played on Saturday, May 14 at 11:30am.
