ASHLAND, Va. – The Christopher Newport University women's lacrosse team fell for only the third time this season with a 12-11 loss to Randolph-Macon College. Kaitlin Quigley led the Captains with five goals while Ashton Marshall added three.

The Captains jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first two minutes of the game with goals from both Quigley and Marshall. The Yellow Jackets scored just a minute later but CNU came back with four straight goals to take a 6-1 lead just ten minutes into the game.

The two teams exchanged pairs of goals with the Yellow Jackets scoring the last two of the half to pull within three at 5-8.

CNU extended their lead to five by scoring the first two goals in the second period making it 10-5 with 25:54 left in the game. The Yellow Jackets scored two goals to make it 10-7 before Quigley scored again at 16:59.

Randolph-Macon scored at 15:49 and 15:06 to pull within two goals of the Captains at 11-9. At 8:35 Rachel Johnson scored on a free position shot for the Yellow Jackets to pull within one goal.

With 47 seconds on the clock Erin Clare Cassidy scored her sixth goal of the game to tie it up at 11. Then with just one second left Cassidy put in another goal to give the Yellow Jackets the win.

CNU outshot Randolph-Macon 25 to 22 and won 14 of 24 draw controls.

Hannah Wilkerson made nine saves for the Captains and Maddy Connor had a team-high four ground balls. Connor and Morgan Layton both had three draw controls to lead the Captains.

The Captains travel to St. Mary's for their next game on May 1 at 2:00pm.
