BURLINGTON, N.C. - Sophomore pitcher
Krista Townsend struck out 10 and pitched a complete-game shutout in the opening game of the 2011 USA South Tournament as top-seeded Christopher Newpoort beat #8 Peace, 4-0.
Townsend scattered five hits all in the first four innings and retired 10 of 11 batters to end the game. She struck out the side in the seventh to punctuate an impressive performance improving her season record to 7-1.

Kelly Foate came around to score. CNU added one more in the third as
Jennifer Falin singled through the left side scoring senior
Jessie Atkinson. Senior outfielder
Ashley Mani rounded out the scoring for CNU with a line drive run-scoring single in the fourth, bringing around McLaughlin.
The rookie outfielder had a good day hitting out of the two hole for the Captains. McLaughlin finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a triple. Mani also finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and Falin was 2-for-3.
Peace starter Hannah McLeod pitched all six innings for the Pacers, allowing just one earned run. Five different players had hits for Peace,
