Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Christopher Newport softball team was swept Sunday at Captains Park, the first home losses of the season for CNU. Virginia Wesleyan improved to 16-2 for the season with wins of 4-3 and 4-2. The Captains are now 14-6 this season.
CNU let a 3-1 lead get away in the opener, as the Marlins scored single runs in the fourth, fifth, and seventh innings to win. VWC first baseman Season Dailey led off the seventh inning with the game tied at 3-3 and was hit by a pitch. Elizabeth Holte (Richmond, Va.), gave up nine hits but only two earned runs in the first game. She took the loss to fall to 5-3 on the season.
In the nightcap, the Marlins jumped out to a 4-0 lead with three third inning runs and a single run in the fourth and never looked back. Sophomore starter Christina Crawford went four innings and allowed only one earned run io improve to 8-1. Creech pitched the final three innings in relief to pick up her first save of the season.
Sophomore
Whitney Haller went the distance in game two, allowing four runs on nine hits in seven innings of work. She fell to 7-2 with the loss.
Senior third baseman
Jessie Atkinson had three singles for the Captains in the second game and was four-for-six in the twin bill.
