DECATUR, Ga. – The Christopher Newport University women's lacrosse team finished out their road trip with a 22-0 victory over USA South opponent, Agnes Scott College. The Captains were led by
Meghan Harkey (Purcellville, VA) and
Kaitlin Quigley (Round Hill, VA) with four goals each.
Sophomore
Lauren King (Fairfax, VA) started off the scoring with two goals in the first three minutes of play. Quigley got her first goal at 27:19 followed by two goals by
Kelly Lane (Great Falls, VA). Harkey scored two in a row with her first coming off a free position shot.
The Captains scored seven more goals in the first half to end the half at 14-0. King started the scoring in the second half just two minutes into play. Six different players scored to finish out the second half with eight goals to make the final score 22-0.
Harkey led with seven points from four goals and three assists. Lane put up six points scoring three goals and dishing out three assists. Quigley scored four and had one assist for five points. King scored three and added an assist while
Jessica Singer (Herndon, Va.) and
Maddy Connor (Alexandria, Va.) scored two. Adding one goal was
Morgan Layton (Ocean City, MD),
Monica Evans (Springfield, VA),
Rachel Tomlinson (Springfield, VA) and
Jenna Cyr (Limerick, Maine).
Emily Johnson (Gainesville, Va.) led the Captains in draw controls with three. Evans caused the most turnovers for the Captains with two. Hanna Wilkerson earned her third win this season making three saves and allowing no goals.
The Captains are now 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the USA South.
CNU travels to Lynchburg, Va. to take on Lynchburg College on Saturday, March 5, with game time set for 4:00 pm.
