Captains Extend Their Winning Streak to Seven with 18-6 Win Over Ferrum

FERRUM, Va. – The Christopher Newport University women's lacrosse team extended their winning streak to a program best seven wins with an 18-6 defeat of Ferrum College. Ashton Marshall led the way with five goals.

The Captains started the game with a 12 goal run with goals coming from seven different players. Ferrum put up their first goal with 6:36 remaining in the half and both teams were able to score one more before half to make it a 13-2 halftime score.

CNU scored three to start the second half to take a 16-2 lead. Ferrum scored from a free position at 19:30 and the Captains turned around and scored another right away. The next two goals went to Ferrum to make it an 17-5 game with 9:02 remaining. Both teams scored another before time was out to finish the game at 18-6.

CNU was led by Marshall with five goals, followed by Meghan Harkey and Lauren King with three each. Harkey also dished out six assists to lead the team. Kaitlin Quigley won four draw controls for the Captains and Hannah Wilkerson made three saves.

The Captains have outscored their opponents 125 to 54 so far this season and are averaging 17.86 goals per game. They play Roanoke College tomorrow in Salem, Va. at 1:00pm.
