NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Top-seeded Christopher Newport University (32-4) beat the #4 North Carolina Wesleyan Bishops in the USA South Tournament Semifinals today, advancing to tomorrow's championship at 1:00 pm. CNU will take on #2 Averett in the Freeman Center for a chance at their fifth straight conference championship.
CNU held the Bishops (20-11) to a .094 hitting percentage while pounding the floor at an impressive .440 clip themselves. Senior setter and USA South Player of the Year
Jessie Heavenrich assisted on 38 of the 54 kills, while adding a match-high 14 digs.
Four different players posted double-digit kills for CNU, led by 12 from junior
Christie Fellows. Fellows committed just one attack error on 20 attempts for a .550 attack percentage, best in the match.
Cory Harris and
Jessie Kolden added 11 kills each while
Bailey Jensen had 10 for the Captains.
Leading the way for NC Wesleyan was Anna Hart with nine kills. Mackenzie Tingle had 19 assists on just 22 kills for the Bishops.
