SALISBURY, Md. – The Christopher Newport University field hockey team traveled to Salisbury University to take on the Profs of Rowan University in a neutral site match. The Captains fell 2-1 after forcing the game into overtime.

Rowan scored first just five minutes before halftime with Kelsey O'Neill getting the goal off a pass from Erin Bernat. The Captains were awarded a penalty stroke just over ten minutes into the second half and senior Lauren Cherry stepped up and tied the game for the Captains. The goal was Cherry's third of the season, all from penalty strokes.

The two teams played the remaining 25 minutes of the game without scoring to send the game into overtime. This was the third overtime for the Captains this season. Almost two minutes into the overtime period the Profs were awarded a penalty corner and Karlee Henderson put it away for the win with the assist going to O'Neill.

The Captains outshot the Profs 13 to 12 but only had three corners to Rowan's 10.

Goalkeeper Jamie Dowling made five saves for the Captains while Jen Goldberg had eight saves for the Profs.

The Captains fall to 10-5 with the loss and the Profs improve to 13-6.

CNU returns to action on Friday, November 4, as they host Houghton College at 7:00pm.
