NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The CNU football team (3-2, 2-0) is on the road this weekend, as they travel to Danville, Va. to take on the Averett Cougars (2-3, 1-1) in USA South action. The road test will kickoff at 1:30 pm and fans can tune into Captains Sports Live online at CNUsports.com or live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM. ).

Both teams are coming off league wins last week, as Averett won big at Greensboro, 42-21, and the Captains escaped with an overtime victory at home versus Shenandoah, 27-20.

The Captains hold an 8-2 advantage in the all-time series, but the Cougars won at POMOCO Stadium last season, 17-9. CNU has won four of the five games played in Danville in the all-time series.

Sophomore running back Markeese Stovall leads the way for CNU so far this season, averaging over 120 yards per game on the ground. He leads the league in rushing and has scored seven touchdowns in the first five games.

Averett features a pair of rookie running backs offensively, as Ke'Von White has scored four touchdowns and Jeff Redd leads the team in yards per carry (6.3).
