Box Score LEXINGTON, Va. – The Christopher Newport University field hockey team defeated Washington & Lee 3-0 improving their record to 8-1 and earned their fifth shutout of the season. The loss drops the Generals to an even 3-3.

The Captains jumped off to a 1-0 lead just two minutes and 22 seconds into the game. Caitlin Cahill (Virginia Beach, Va.) took a shot that hit the back of the cage after a pass from Chrissy Kurecki (Richmond, Va.). The Captains continued the attacking pressure with seven more shots in the half while not allowing Washington & Lee to record any.

With about a minute and a half left on the clock in the first half the Captains were awarded their third penalty corner of the game. Taylor Harrell (Virginia Beach, Va.) hit the ball out to Kylie Cale (Chester, Va.) who took a shot from the top of the circle that was tipped in by Katelyn Yandle (Portsmouth, Va.) giving the Captains their second goal of the game.

The Captains continued in the second half with five more shots to Washington & Lee's two. Harrell put the third goal in the cage with just over a minute left in the game.

The Captains return to action on Wednesday, September 29, as they travel to Fredericksburg, Va. to take on the Eagles of Mary Washington. Game time is set for 4:30pm.
