Softball to Play Eastern Connecticut State Friday in NCAA Finals

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Action will begin this Friday as Christopher Newport University's softball squad travels to Wisconsin for the NCAA National Championship.

Keith Parr's squad is 40-8 and coming off an exciting four-game sweep last weekend in the Newport News Regional. The 60-team tournament has been cut down to the final eight teams.

CNU will open play against the Warriors of Eastern Connecticut State Friday at 5 pm (EST). It will be the first meeting ever between the schools in softball.

The 2010 NCAA Division III Softball National Championships will take place at Carson Park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Action will continue through the weekend and the National Champion will be determined either Monday or Tuesday.

CNU's softball team is playing in the tournament for the fourth straight season and eighth time overall. It's the first time CNU has ever advanced to the “Elite 8."

The other six schools advancing to play in Eau Claire are Moravian, Ithaca, Luther, Linfield, DePauw, and East Texas Baptist.

Fans will be able to watch the action live via streaming video from Carson Park.
