NEWPORT NEWS, VA- Action will begin this Thursday as Christopher Newport University hosts a 2010 NCAA Division III Softball regional. Eight schools have been selected to compete at Captains Park as the NCAA Tournament begins on Thursday at CNU.

The 60-team bracket for the 2010 tournament was released by the NCAA today. CNU's softball team received an at-large bid and will play in the tournament for the fourth straight season and eighth time overall. Keith Parr's Captains have a record of 36-8 and were 17-1 at home this season, and will play Piedmont (29-10) Thursday in an opening round game.

In other opening-round games, #1 seed Salisbury (33-2) will play Eastern Mennonite (19-16) at 10:00 am on Thursday to kick off the regional followed by defending National Champion Messiah (35-7) who will take on USA South Champion Greensboro (27-13-1) at noon.  Susquehanna (32-11) will take on Frostburg State (28-14) in the 2:00 pm game followed by the host, CNU taking on Piedmont at 4:00 pm.

Action will continue through the weekend to determine the squad that will advance to the National Final next weekend in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
