Sweep of N.C. Wesleyan Gives Softball 30 Wins for Fourth Straight Year

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The fourth-ranked CNU softball team swept a doubleheader from N.C. Wesleyan Tuesday, 6-1 and 7-0, and in the process picked up its 30th win for the fourth straight season.

CNU has actually won at least 30 games in nine of the last 11 years and 12 of the past 16.

In game one the Captains grabbed a 4-0 lead in the third inning. After Mary Kennedy drove in a run with a single, Ashley Mani, Chelsea Mitchell and Kristin Nickloy each doubled home a run. The Captains added two more in the seventh on a two-run single by Atkinson. 

Kennedy went 3-4 with an RBI and Atkisnon was 2-4 with three RBIs. In the process she broke the CNU career record for hits with a total of 204. Earlier in the year she also set the career mark for runs scored and now has a total of 151. Atkinson has also set CNU's career home run record with 25.

Kristen Rowe got the win with seven innings of five-hit, one-run ball with 11 strikeouts.

The second game saw CNU also take a 4-0 lead in the third. This time they tacked on three more in the fourth and cruised to the win.

Mitchell had two hits as ten different players hit safely for the Captains. Elizabeth Holte pitched the first five innings, allowing just three hits.

CNU is now 30-6 and 12-2 in the USA South. It concludes the USA South season by hosting Averett Friday at 2:30 and Ferrum Saturday at 1:00.
