Box Score NEWPORT NEWS, VA – CNU women's lacrosse defeated Agnes Scott, 23-1, at Captains Field improving their record to 7-3 while dropping Agnes Scott to 4-7.
Meghan Harkey had a record-breaking 12 points in the game with two goals and 10 assists.
CNU started the scoring as
Becca Geist gained control of the initial draw, took off down the field, fired a shot and scored in the first 10 seconds of play. The Captains continued to pour on the goals, scoring 13 more in the first half.
Alicia Logan scored the lone Agnes Scott goal at 21:25. The Captains scored nine more in the second half making it a 23-1 final score.
Leading in goals for the Captains were
Kaitlin Quigley,
Alyssa Burke and
Lauren King with four each.
Natalie Gilbert and
Becca Geist both netted three and Harkey scored two. With one goal each the Captains had
Rachel Tomlinson,
Grace Valentine and
Alexandra Smith.
Harkey's two goals and 10 assists breaks the single-game point record (previously 11) set by Wendy Wilson against Ferrum during the 2001 season.
CNU led in shots with 41 to Agnes Scott's six. The Captains also led in groundballs with 25. Agnes Scott goalie,
Mia Jacintho, had 11 saves during the game.
Today was also Senior Day for the Captains where seniors
Alyssa Burke,
Natalie Gilbert and
Gayle Robinson where honored for their athletic and academic achievements and their contribution to the women's lacrosse program at CNU.
The Captains travel to Mary Washington on Wednesday, April 7, for a game set to start at 4:00 pm.
