Box Score 2 RALEIGH, N.C. - The CNU softball team ran its winning streak to eight in a row with a doubleheader sweep at Meredith Saturday, 11-1 and 6-2.
In the first game, fourth-ranked CNU gradually built a 4-0 lead and then exploded for seven runs in the final two innings.
Taylor Morgan belted a solo homer in the fourth to give the Captains a 2-0 lead and then Jessie Atkimson's two-run blast in the fifth made it 4-0. CNU then added three in the sixth, with the big hit a two-run double by Chelsie Mitchell. CNU then put the game totally out of reach with four runs in the seventh with
Ashley Mani driving in two with a single.
Mary Kennedy went 4-4 and scored three runs. Morgan had three hits and two home runs and Mitchell added two hits and two RBIs.
Kristen Rowe went six innings, allowing one unearned runs while striking out five.
In the second game CNU again scored late to take the win. With the score tied, 2-2,
Megan Morris belted a two-run double in the sixth to put the Captains on top to stay. In the seventh CNU added two more on RBI singles by Kristin Nickloy and
Emily Garcia. Morris finished with two hits and two RBIs, while Kennedy, Mani and Mitchell each had two hits.
The Captains ran their record to 28-6 and 10-2 in the USA South, regaining first place in the conference.
CNU visits N.C. Wesleyan Tuesday at 3 p.m.
