Box Score 2 NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - CNU scored in 11 of 12 possible innings in taking a doubleheader from Stevenson Saturday at Captains Park, 12-1 and 9-2.
In the first game CNU scored five in the third inning to break the game open with an 8-0 lead. Steven Lindemuth belted a two-run triple and Ben Lenda then drove him in with a two-run homer to highlight the inning.
Luke Saunders finished 3-3 with an RBI and scored three runs. Lindemuth collected two hits with two RBIs, while Lenda had two hits an three RBIs. Shayne Kersey collected two doubles and an RBI and Connor Madden had two hits and two RBIs.
Josh Brinkman went the distance for his second complete game of the year, scattering four hits and striking out five.
In game two the big inning for the Captains was the second when they plated four. Down, 2-1, CNU loaded the bases with one out and Shannon Mark blasted a bases-clearing triple. He then scored on a sacrifice fly by Parker Neal.
Neal later got into the action by belting solo homers leading off the fourth and sixth innings.
Kersey added three more hits, while Drue Vernon had two with two RBIs and Steven Keener went 2-3.
Sean Chitsaz gave CNU its second straight complete game, allowing just one earned run.
The Captains are now 15-10 and host Gallaudet Monday at 3 p.m. Stevenson is now 14-11.
