Softball Advances in USA South With 6-1 Win Over Meredith

Box Score   BURLINGTON, N.C. - CNU's fifth-ranked softball team advanced in the USA South Tournament with a 6-1 win over Meredith Saturday.
  The Captains will play at 4 p.m. this afternoon against second-seeded Greensboro which defeated Methodist, 7-1.
  CNU opened the scoring with a run in the second inning when Renee Ashworth singled home Jen Falin. CNU made it 3-0 in the second on an uneraned run and a sacrifice fly by Kristin Nickloy.
  After the Avenging Angles scored once in the bottom of the third, the Captains answered in the fourth on a single by Mary Kennedy, which scored Ashworth.
  CNU added insurance runs in the sixth and seventh. Ashworth singled home Taylor Morgan, who had doubled, in the sixth and then Nickloy drove in the final run on a sacrifice fly.
  Ashworth finished with three hits and two RBIs. Kennedy was 2-3 with an RBI and Morgan and Chelsea Mitchell each were 2-3. Nickloy had two RBIs.
  Kristen Rowe went the distance, allowing seven hits and striking out six while improving her record to 18-3.
