BURLINGTON, N.C. -- Christopher Newport's men's tennis team increased its winning streak to six with a 9-0 shutout of Shenandoah on Friday in a USA South Athletic Conference tournament quarterfinal at the Burlington Tennis Center.
The second-seeded Captains advanced into a 2 p.m. Saturday quarterfinal against third-seeded Averett, which they defeated 8-1 in a regular-season match in Danville.
The Captains (13-8) swept a trio of doubles matches, with the teams of Eric Shulman-Lorenzo Sison, Gian Heyer-Dusty Nelson and Dylan Young-Chris Yost registering victories.
CNU lost only four games in six singles matches, including Shulman's 6-1, 6-2 victory over Michael Milanov at the No. 1 spot. Ranked fourth in the South Atlantic Region, Shulman – the USA South Player of the Year -- is closing in on a berth to the NCAA Division III singles tournament.
