Kyle Pasta scored the winning goal with seven seconds left in the second overtime period to give the Captains the 9-8 victory over visiting Vassar College. The win improves the Captains to 4-2 on the season and drops Vassar to 2-3.
The Captains opened the scoring at 9:29 in the first period with an unassisted goal from
Ray Fitzgerald. CNU scored the next three goals making it 4-0 at 13:52 in the second period.
Christopher Toffoli scored the first goal for Vassar at 11:00 off a pass from
Sam Seymour. CNU answered with a goal a minute and a half later making it 5-1 at half.
CNU started the third period with a goal in less than 10 seconds of play but Vassar came back with another goal about a minute later. The Captains scored the next two goals and then allowed Vassar to score the next six goals. The last goal by Vassar tied the game with 1:15 remaining in the game that sent it into overtime.
The first overtime period of four minutes went scoreless and it appeared the second was going to end the same. But CNU notched a goal with seven seconds left for the win.
Leading the way with goals for the Captains was
Kevin Righi with three and
Britt Hoover with two. Also scoring were
Zach Hill ,
John Glaser, Kyle Pasta and
Ray Fitzgerald.
Andy McGregor played all 70 minutes and recorded 12 saves.
The Captains out shot Vassar 42-29 and also led in ground balls with 44 to Vassar's 33.
CNU hosts Washington & Jefferson next Saturday, March 20th, at Captains Field at 7:30 pm.
