NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University volleyball squad beat N.C. Wesleyan College in three sets to claim the USA South Tournament Championship for the fourth straight year. The Captains improve to 35-2 with the win while N.C. Wesleyan drops to24-11.
Set scores for the match were 25-15, 25-9 and 25-19.
Chelsea McClure (Montclair, Va.) and
Caitlyn Jansen (Lorton, Va.) each had nine kills for the Captains while
Bailey Jensen (Ashburn, Va.) added eight.
Jessie Heavenrich (Cambria, Calif.) had 32 assists, three service aces, two blocks and five kills. Heavenrich was named the Tournament MVP for her efforts.
The Bishops were led by
Barbara DeRatt with five kills.
Mackenzie Tingle had 17 assists and a service ace.
Anna Hart contributed four kills, six digs and three solo blocks for N.C. Wesleyan.
Kelly George had 16 digs and an assist.
Selected for the All-Tournament team from CNU were

Mary Horner. Also chosen were
Anna Hart and
Kelly George from North Carolina Wesleyan and
Brittany Hunsucker from Greensboro.
