NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Christopher Newport University field hockey team is taking on Kenyon College tonight for the second time in program history. Game time is set for 6:00pm at Captains Field.
The last meeting of these two teams was in Lexington, Va. in 2008. The Captains came out on top 2-0. Kenyon is currently 6-6 and is led offensively by
Sarah McNee who has nine goals and four assists. Defensively,
Sophia Daly has posted three defensive saves for the Ladies. Goalkeeper
Sydney Carney-Knisely has played every minute for the Ladies and has made 66 saves with a 2.25 goals-against-average.
The Captains and Eagles were set to play on September 28 in Fredericksburg, Va. but rain and wet field conditions forced them to postpone the game. Mary Washington is traveling to CNU to play the rescheduled game on Saturday at 6:00pm. It will follow the Kenyon and Randolph-Macon game being played at Captains Field at 4:00pm.
The Eagles are 6-5 and are led by
Morgan Jones with 19 points from six goals and seven assists while
Emma Jones leads the team in goals with seven.
Kristen Haynor and
Heidi Sheehan both have two defensive saves for the Eagles while goalkeeper
Chrissy Bowdren has made 31 saves and has a goals-against-average of 2.36.
The Captains are 10-1 and are being led by
Katelyn Yandle (Portsmouth, Va.) with 10 goals and one assist.
Brianna Milne (Virginia Beach, Va.) has two defensive saves while goalkeeper
Brittany Bradsher (Hampton, Va.) has allowed only 6 goals this season, tallied 61 saves and has a goals-against-average of 0.54.
