Captains Host Greensboro in USA South Football Action This Saturday at 1 pm

CNU tied for top spot in USA South with 2-1 mark

COMPLETE GAME NOTES: GAME SEVEN vs. GREENSBORO COLLEGE

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- This Saturday the Christopher Newport football team (2-4, 2-1) play host to USA South foe Greensboro College (1-5, 0-3) at 1 pm. The Captains are coming off a huge win on the road at N.C. Wesleyan and will look to keep the momentum rolling by returning home for the next two weeks.

In support of the university's canned food drive each fall to support the Food Bank of the Virginia Peninsula, CNU Athletics is offering a promotion for Saturday's game: Bring 2 canned food items and receive one (1) free general admission ticket to Saturday's game.  Also, CNU will donate $1 to the Peninsula Food Bank for every ticket sold.

The game will be broadcast live on the Christopher Newport/Pepsi Radio Network (Xtra 99.1 FM) with the pre-game show beginning at 12:30 pm. Fans can also listen to the game live on Captains Sports Live (www.cnusports.com).

This week's game is #101 in the history of CNU football and the tenth against Greensboro College. The Captains hold a 9-0 advantage in the all-time series, including a 4-0 mark at POMOCO Stadium.

Last week, in the 100th game in program history, the CNU football team earned a huge road victory at N.C. Wesleyan, 23-15. The win puts the Captains in a five-team logjam atop the USA South standings after the defense and special teams had a big day for CNU and rookie QB Lyndon Garner was poised and confident as he managed the Captains offense in his first career game.

Greensboro is coming off a 28-20 home loss last Saturday to Ferrum College. The Pride has been outscored so far this year, 178-62, for an average score of 30-10. Seth Adams and Antwan Thorpe lead the offense, as Adams has averaged 130 yards through the air while Thorpe averages 67 yards receiving.
